About the UF IT Certification Program
The UF Information Technology Certification program, originally launched in January 2001 as the Computer Challenge, organizes a variety of UF information technology training resources into a guided educational program.
This structured training provides a methodical way to achieve valuable IT skills. By bringing campus IT Training resources together and providing tracks to follow, the University of Florida's IT Training Committee hopes to increase the level of participation in all courses and further the skills of all UF employees.
"UF ITC is a great tool and incentive for employees to take advantage of while at the university," said Anne Allen, chair of the UF IT Training Committee. "A lot of groups on campus provide excellent IT training and this certification program provides a way for us to pool all these assets together and harmonize it into one excellent training resource."
The committee patterned the program after UF's Human Resource Services' Supervisory Challenge, a set of courses that employees can take toward a certificate.
"Under the umbrella of the UF ITC, providers of Information Technology training from across campus are working together to use existing and future resources more wisely," said Jodi Gentry, assistant director of personnel services for UF. “The goal is to coordinate and combine IT resources so as to get the most benefit from courses on campus."
Training resources include courses offered through the Center for Instructional Technology and Training (CITT), Human Resource Services, the Health Sciences Center, and UF's on-line, Web-based NETg course server. Other independent training, such as workshops and conferences, may be approved to qualify in place of current UF ITC courses.
